Service Information

Catalonia is an autonomous community on the northeastern corner of Spain and is of immense value to the Spanish economy as a whole. Occupying 6.3% of Spain my mass, containing 16% of the total population, it generates 20% of Spain’s GDP and accounts for a quarter of its exports. So one can see quite clearly why Spain doesn’t want to see it break away completely!

Catalonia is one of the leading manufacturers of chemicals in the world and is fifth in Europe. It is therefore no surprise that our exports and imports between the northeastern regions of Spain contribute a good percentage of the movements. However, even though most of our export and import departures are able to carry dangerous goods, we do also transport all types of merchandise from every sector of industry, for example; yarn, animal feeds, plastics, kitchenware, machinery, foodstuffs (also temperature controlled), and not forgetting wine!

Barcelona and Tarragona are also seaports, and major ones at that. Aside from being two of the main ports of the Mediterranean, being both financially more attractive than the Northern European ports, and beneficial on transit times to Asia, Tarragona in particular is also the largest port in Southern Europe for chemicals, accounting for 60% of its total cargo traffic.

Our freight service to Barcelona

Of our road freight services to Spain, Barcelona, with its surrounding provinces of Tarragona, Girona and Lleida, is by far our largest southbound route. Departing every day, with the exception of some Monday’s, this area of Spain accounts for upwards of 8 groupage trailers each week, plus many full loads. Slightly less frequent is our import service from Barcelona, although still maintaining upwards of 5-6 trailers each week, leaving every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

Barcelona is also a transit hub for some of our other road freight services to Andorra and the Balearic Islands, consisting of Majorca (Mallorca), Minorca (Menorca), Ibiza and Formentera.

In addition to our extensive road freight services to and from Barcelona and surrounding areas, we can also provide sea freight cross trades to and from the ports of Barcelona and Tarragona.

First impression – first class

Good Morning Phil

I am the Manager of North Walkden Vets (Over 35’s) Football Club.

I would like to thank you along with James Mears who is an integral part of our team for agreeing to sponsor our new football kit which we will be wearing for the next 2 seasons. The financial support will ensure that the team can continue on a sound footing for at least the next 2 seasons, so we are very grateful for this.

On a business front, I have got to understand what Mearsy does for a job and as a result have sent some enquiries and secured a number of jobs using your company to transport some of our goods to France, Israel and Qatar in the last few weeks.

The first impressions I have of your company has been very good, The service I have received from the likes of Mearsy, Andrew Knowles & Rebecca Heap has been first class!

Mark Dougill, Export Manager, A1 Shutters.
