Many will already have read that the EU is introducing a new Maritime Emissions tax, namely EU Emissions Trading System (or ETS in short) which will come partly into force on 1st January 2024. The official link can be found here.
For the short-sea crossings such as Dover/Calais, the surcharge fairly minimal, and it is our intention to absorb these charges. However, for longer crossings the surcharge is not so insignificant.
For the Genoa to Malta crossing as an example, the cost for a round trip trailer equates to €204 which will unfortunately mean that we will be forced to apply a €1 per 100kgs taxable surcharge for 2024 Q1. Some other services may likely be affected once we have received the various shipping line’s additions, and these shall be advised to customers on a one to one basis once known.
As we always do, any such surcharges are reviewed constantly, and where we can make downward adjustments, we pride ourselves in being one of the first to do so.
