Service Information

Being the founding service of the Company, it should come as no surprise that this remains our largest single market and one with which, by virtue of our name, we have become synonymous.

Accounting for some 45% of our total jobs in the last financial year (2019), we have steadily and progressively grown our services with Italy, covering the whole country, islands and all, no matter what the postcode.

Our freight services to and from Italy

Our export service to Italy operates most days from Manchester and Essex, in the main independently, the fixed groupage departures of Tuesday, Thursday & Friday making up most of the movements. Full loads can be managed any day, but for groupage movements, with extraneous driving restrictions in place, there is little point in a daily service, even though, more often than not, we fill in the gaps with a total having grown by 2019 to some 25-30 trailers each week.

Our import service from Italy, however, with the exception of some Monday’s, is daily. Whilst covering the whole of Italy, most groupage cargoes are loaded via our partner’s Milan or Verona depot, where we make upwards of 20 groupage trailers per week.

And now that our partner has opened in Rome, direct services to and from the Lazio region are in our eyesight as very few consolidators, if any, offer a true direct service to Rome.

A summary of our road freight export services to Italy are as follows:

In additional to handling dangerous goods in scope of ADR/IMDG on most of the trailers, we are also able to manage temperature controlled cargo, even including dangerous goods.

Our partner in Italy

Italy is one of the countries where we have just one sole partner covering the whole of the country. And as our founding service, they have been with us from the beginning, and even before.

ITX Cargo began in January 1998 with its head office originally in Milan. Their target markets initially focused around Scandinavia, in particular Sweden. By the end of their first year of activity, the Company had commenced direct departures also to Norway, Denmark and Finland, thereby completing its goal to attain a full complement of services between Scandinavia and Italy.

Towards the end of 1998, the Company’s connection to the UK began. Having worked closely together to establish the service between Italy and the UK in previous employment during a two year period, the transition to Ital Logistics in August 2000 was seamless, and the service continues to grow.

In 2011 they started their venture into sea and air freight and opened ITX Cargo Overseas. This has been a great success and in 2020 they opened as second office in Pomezia (Rome) which will also become involved in road freight services.

In December 2018 they moved from their location just off Viale Certosa in Milan to a new custom built facility in Origgio in the province of Varese, just a few miles north of the Milan tangenziale. At a cost exceeding €4.5 million, it comprises 17 loading bays, 3,000 m² of warehousing, 1,000 m² of offices on three floors, contained in an area of 16,500 m². This exciting new venture for our Italian partners will enhance service, enable growth and provide a future-proof platform for many years to come.

In a hole

Good work Kurtis. Nice to know that when we’re ‘in a hole’, there’s someone else prepared to lift a shovel!
