Last month we commissioned the installation of solar panels to the roof of our premises in Heywood. Even though the sun doesn’t shine as much as we’d like, such is the technology which has advanced dramatically in recent years, we should reduce our energy usage by upwards of 40%, as well as pushing some 18% back to the grid.
Aside of any financial benefit in the long term, the immediate result will be a reduction in carbon emissions in the region of 10-12 tons annually.
This addition follows the installation of EV charging points, as well as changing all company cars to electric or hybrid over the last couple of years.
Whilst the bulk of emissions in our industry sector come from the transport of our customers’ goods, any changes we can make for the better at Scope 1 & 2 levels marks a contribution, however small in the grand scheme.
