In order to issue Transit documentation (T1/T2 forms) under the Common Transit Convention (CTC) regime, we must provide a guarantee to HMRC to pay any customs duties, taxes and any other charges imposed, should the documentation not be properly discharged at destination. This guarantee is called a Customs Comprehensive Guarantee (CCG).
Irrespective of whether duties are not applicable under any free trade agreement, in the event of failure to discharge such documentation, duties do become payable, along with any taxes, for example VAT, and any penalties that might be imposed by customs authorities in origin, destination and/or any transiting countries.
Whilst we may already hold a general authorisation as a Direct Customs Agent, we require a specific indemnity for when we, or our nominated sub-agents issue/arrange Transit documentation for our clients consignments.
